In plina criza financiara, o licitatie de fotografii organizata la New York in data de 30 martie 2009 de celebra casa Sotheby’s a strans nu mai putin de 2.384.690 USD. S-au licitat nume ca Ansel Adams, Edward Weston, Berenice Abbott, Robert Doisneau, Henri Cartier – Bresson, Irving Penn, Richard Avedon, Helmut Newton sau Annie Leibovitz. Gasiti mai jos cateva din fotografiile licitate.
Abordarea Juliei Cameron (Marea Britanie 1815–1879) a fost una neobisnuita. Ea evita intentionat claritatea si reproducerea detaliilor ce se obtineau usor cu ajutorul negativelor de sticla. Folosea in schimb un sharf moale si o expunere lunga, (expunere masurata uneori in minute, in vremea in care fotografii faceau tot ce era posibil sa obtina expuneri cat mai scurte, de ordinul secundelor).
Pentru cine credea ca tehnologia HDR este o inventie relativ recenta, o performanta a generatiei photoshop, uite ca nu e asa :).
Gustave Le Gray (Francez, 1820–1884) a fost primul ce a rezolvat problema expunerii corecte atat a cerului cat si a solului intr-o singura imagine. Practic a expus doua negative pe placi de stica, una cu expunerea corecta pentru cer si o a doua cu expunerea corecta pentru sol. Placile erau ulterior suprapuse pentru obtinerea printului final.
Azi am primit un mesaj foarte interesant, un mesaj ce ma convinge ca nimic nu e facut degeaba. Dupa ce a vazut ”Primii fotografi din Romania“, Matthias Reiser, nici mai mult nici mai putin decat stra-stranepotul celebrulul fotograf Andreas D. Reiser, a decis sa imi scrie. Reiser a fost, alaturi de Szathmari, Duschek si Mandy, unul dintre pionierii fotografiei romanesti.
Comentariul lui Matthias Reiser este urmatorul: “Just read in your blog about romanian photographs in the 19th century and found some very interestiong information on the photographer A.D. Reiser, my great grandfather. Unfortunately I don’t speak any romanian and therefore can only half-guess some of the information. As in my family little is known about the period my great grandfather spent in Romania (about 1872-1883) I am very interested to know more about what might me left of his work in Bucharest. He later went to Alexandria, Egypt. His son, my grandfather continued his atelier until 1914 in Alexandria and then in Munich, Germany, where A.D. Reiser had originally come from. I would be happy to hear from you. Best wishes, Matthias”
Ma gandesc la faptul ca il putem ajuta asa ca spread the word. Daca sunt printre voi pasionati, invatati, profesori, academicieni sau pur si simplu aveti informatii despre celebrul fotograf, sunteti mai mult decat bineveniti sa le postati dar in engleza, stranepotul e neamt :).
Unul dintre cei mai cunoscuti fotografi din perioada interbelica este Nicolae Ionescu (1903 – 1975). Pe cat de cunoscut atunci, pe atat de necunoscut azi. Marele merit al lui Ionescu este fotografia- document pe care a realizat-o in decursul vietii. Fascinantul Bucuresti al anilor 20 – 30, amintirea “micului Paris” este pastrata inca vie prin fotografiile lui. Cazut in dizgratie in perioada comunista, el ramane un necunoscut publicului si in prezent. Multe dintre fotografiile lui care circula astazi sunt publicate in diferite albume sau se gasesc pur si simplu pe internet, dar de cele mai multe ori lucrarile nu sunt semnate, frumusetea fotografiilor neaducand nici un fel de glorie fotografului.
Evident cineva a trebuit sa fie primul asa ca nu e chiar “big deal” dar felul in care sa intamplat este unul foarte interesant, mai ales pentru cei ce au cat de cat habar de tehnica fotografica.
Am primit zilele trecute o importanta colectie de fotografii, cele mai multe dintre ele mai vechi de un secol. Sunt fascinante, nu doar ca imagini sau vechime ci pur si simplu sunt printre primele imagini fotografice realizate in Romania. Szathmari, Duschek, Mandy, Reiser, Wandelmann sunt nume cunoscute pentru unii dintre voi. Probabil cei interesati stiu ca ei sunt printre pionierii fotografiei romanesti. Tot weekend-ul am stat cu ochii in ele, le-am privit, le-am scanat, mai ca am dormit cu ele in brate… da le-am scanat, adica am fotografiile originale! O parte din imagini sunt datate iar cele mai vechi sunt din anul 1872. Vorbim de mai bine de 135 de ani si arata impecabil. Trebuia sa imi vedeti fata, zambetul trada totul.
“American Girl in Italy” este una din clasicile lucrari ale lui Ruth Orkin. In 1951 ea a calatorit in Israel avand un angajament din partea Filarmonicii Israeliene. Dupa ce a trait cateva luni in acolo, ea si-a continuat calatoriile in Italia. In Florenta a intalnit un student la arte ce ii va deveni subiect pentru o fotografie ilustrativa intitulata “Don’t Be Afraid to Travel Alone”.
In dimineata zilei de 10 iunie 1963, Malcom Browne, un fotograf de 30 de ani din New York ce a fost trimis in Vietnam de Associated Press, a primit un telefon cu informatia de a fi a doua zi intr-o anume intersectie din Saigon pentru ca ceva important avea sa se intample.
On the second day of the Tet Offensive, Edward Thomas Adams and an NBC news crew heard gunfire. They followed the noise to a street corner where South Vietnamese soldiers were leading a handcuffed Viet Cong captive to Lt. Col. Nguyen Ngoc Loan, chief of the South Vietnamese National Police. Assuming the prisoner was about to be interrogated, Adams raised his camera to capture the moment. Instead, he took a picture of Lung shooting the prisoner in the head. (Adams later learned that the prisoner was a Viet Cong officer responsible for slaughtering an entire family.)
Se pare ca Halsman si Dali au avut o relatie fotografica de lunga durata. Mai toate fotografiile celebre ale lui Dali sunt realizate de Halsman si nu sunt char putine.
It took 26 tries and over five hours to have this image done. Philippe Halsman made this picture in 1948 and the subject was Salvador Dali himself. Of course, all that you see in the image was an real act in front of the camera, no ticks or retouch. No more than three assistants threw the cats, one threw the water from a bucket and Halsman’s wife held the chair.
“99Cent” by Andreas Gursky, chromogenic color print, 81 1/2 by 132 inches, numbered 6/6, 1999 was sold with the amount of 3,3 millions $. The old record was only 2,9 millions $.
If you’ll make a top of the world’s most important war pictures, this Pulizer wining image will be on the first place for sure. For Americans, if they have to describe “patriotism” in a single picture, this will be more than enough.
I’m sure that some of you already know the pictures and the history of this man but I have to publish these images here anyway. It is very strange for me to see the eyes of a man who will know he will die in the next minutes. In this kind of pictures I really identify the true power of photography. This man died more than 60 years ago but this touching face expression it is still printed and somehow alive.
